Hedera

An collection inspired by climbing plants and their remarkable ability to cover entire surfaces, or grow meters high by winding around trees or other objects.
Ivy (Hedera), a fast-growing, woody plant found all over the world, embodies this idea perfectly. Its young shoots are slender, flexible, and equipped with rootlets to cling to surfaces, while its mature branches become thick, self-supporting, and rootless.

The concept of an organism growing over something else became the foundation for the Hedera Collection. I envisioned furniture being overtaken by another form. How would that appear? Is it a fusion of two entities, or does one clearly take control? Could the growing form eventually stand alone, or would it always need its host?

While traveling through Australia last year, I saw different types of climbing plants winding around trees, their vines growing into thick, mature branches. This fascinated me so much! Closer to home, climbing plants like ivy have a similar effect. This became the foundation for my new Hedera collection.
